Single hotel rooms in Paris are widely available. If there is only one of you, why pay for an empty bed when paying the price of the classic standard double or twin room?
There are also a significant number of hotels in Paris that will give you a special discounted single room rate in a normal double/twin room. If the reduction in price between a single room and a double room seems small, there is a good chance you will be in a double/twin room.
Most hotels only have a very small proportion of their rooms as single rooms, so expect frustration through lack of availability if you try and book close to your stay date.
If you are under 35 and cost is the main purchasing criteria then the cheapest accommodation will be a dormitory bed at one of Paris hostels.
Considerations when choosing your single room hotel in Paris
Hotel districts
The most sought after areas for leisure visitors are around the Champs Elysees, Louvre, Opera Garnier and St Germain area of the Left Bank. You pay a sizable price premium for a hotel in any of these districts.
For those on a budget the hotel districts around some of the main railway stations in Paris, Gare Du Nord, Gare de Lyon and Montparnasse are notable. If any of these are your arrival gateways in Paris, they are probably your benchmark district to check out. For those flying into Paris, all of the stations have very good links to the airports.
At the weekend probably the best districts for value for money is at La Defense and Montparnasse districts, both business districts that struggle to fill rooms at the weekend.
Transport
Paris has an excellent public transport system that is very affordable. For the small inconvenience of ten minutes on the Metro, you can reduce your hotel costs substantially to something affordable.
The main railway stations are also public transport hubs with multiple Metro lines that will get you to wherever you want to go in Paris quickly and cheaply.
Seasonality
August is the quietest month of year as most of the Parisians flee Paris and business grinds to a stop. Again the business districts are very cheap all of August.
